I'm going to sound like a broken record but again I liked the work I got out of Eric the painter. He did a great job on our entry area including the staircase and the multiple Newel post's. Another positive is the equipment needed to get to the high ceilings in the entry and up the stair case. These are equipment purchases you make and then don't ever use again or, best case, try to use in 6-10 years but can't find all the pieces. Much of my comments about Eric are on the posting March 31, 2009 on External Painting that you can find in the archives.

My experience with Eric was "interesting." I did not know what to expect since I have always done my own painting but was willing to pay to have my external windows caulked and painted. Eric worked over a few weeks period while it was blazing hot and at the same time doing other jobs in the neighborhood. I was in no hurry so it wasn't a big deal.
ReplyDeleteHe did spend a fair amount of time standing around sort of talking but not really communicating which got a bit nerve racking at times. He also seemed to enjoy watching us work. He watched Roger while he replaced a sprinkler head and put in drip on our sprinkler system. Okay?!?
The tough part was when he came to see if the job was done. Eric is the painter. Why is he asking me if it's done. So we talked... Then I asked him if he had an invoice for me and he said he was hoping I was going to suggest a price. I didn't know what to say.... He would not give me a price but instead himmed and hawed until he decided to go do work on someone elses house while I came up with a price. When I saw him later and threw out a price he acted weird and said as long as you don't tell anybody. Argh!
The bottom line is he did a GREAT JOB. He's a bit unusual to work with but as long as you know that ahead of time it's no problem.
I'm sad to have to post this recent update on Eric the Painter. It appears that he is getting out of the business. I haven't heard that from him directly in spite of the fact that I have called him 5 times with no response. My contractor, who uses him as well, called him for me and still no response. He did eventually hear from him and it appears that he is getting out of the business. Too bad really because he did a nice job at a very reasonable price. He was very busy in this business but perhaps it was not working for him.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone else have a painter to suggest?

Jon’s group was, without doubt, one of the most professional painters I have met. I don’t say that often but I observed a well seasoned veteran looking at a kitchen/family room and giving an accurate bid and finished the job when promised. His painters where polite, on time and experienced. Without hesitation I can recommend Jon Syltebo and his painting crew.
